The interview includes Mary McEwan's memories of growing up in Alabama and Nashville, Tennessee, attending Tennessee State University and marrying her husband. She discusses writing poetry and cookbooks, her involvement at the Spruce Street Baptist Church and volunteering with the Bethlehem Center.
