   Summary:

   Collection of photographs, audio recordings, ephemera, flyers, and programs which document the east and west coast folk and rock music scenes during the 1960s and 1970s including the Sky River Rock Festival, the Indian Neck Folk Festival, and various concerts. Photographs represent Earl Crabb's documentation of music events and his studio work. Earl Crabb photographed weight-lifting, fashion, album and magazine covers, circus performers, theater events, as well as people, markets, cities, and events in countries around the world. Ephemera includes flyers from folk clubs such as Cafe Yana in Boston, Massachusetts; Club 47 in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and the Freight and Salvage coffeehouse in Berkeley, California. Collection includes editions of Broadside magazine, Hootenanny, and the Philadelphia Folksong Society's Tune Up, which advertised these events. Of special interest are photographs from the Sky River Rock Festival, 1968-1970, in Washington State, and early editions of "Humbead's Revised Map of the World" produced in Berkeley, California. Sixty-two audio recordings in the collection, made during the 1960s and 1970s, include concert and coffeehouse performances by the Cleanliness and Godliness Skiffle Band, Wayne Smith and Ry Cooder, Tom Danaher, Dave and Megan Marash, Styx River Ferry, Hank Bradley, Ace Martel, Erik Frandsen, Jim and Jesse McReynolds; a recording of author Joseph Campbell, and others; some recordings are unidentified.

   Summary:

   Social documentary photographer. Correspondence, draft of autobiography and other writings, interviews, printed matter, Federal Bureau of Investigation file, and miscellaneous papers relating to Rogovin's work as a photographer, especially of working people of the world and the working-class neighborhoods of his home city, Buffalo, New York, and his publications and exhibitions as well as the political activism that underlay his art work.

   Summary:

   Collection of 1747 digital files of graphic, moving image, sound recording, and manuscript format documentary works created by Markham Starr and four of his published monographs. The collection primarily documents northeastern fishermen and the fishing industry. Some records also document farming and dairy production. A majority of the works are part of larger themed documentary projects, and others are independent works.

4. Charlie Seemann collection of photographs of vaqueros and gauchos, 1985-1986

   Summary:

   From November 2-13, 1985, folklorist Charlie Seemann led a group of six volunteers for the California-based Center for Field Research to document vaqueros in the Concepción area of Paraguay and a horse trading operation near Asunción. Photographs documented vaqueros at work, their dress, horses, cattle, gear, and saddles. Additionally, Seemann documented the estancia haciendas, ranch buildings, corrals and fencing, landscapes, and ranch life (175 color slides from Paraguay). From September 12-25, 1986, Charlie Seemann led a similar trip to document guachos in Uruguay at the Estancia San Pedro de Timote, and near Melo, Uruguay. This group traveled to Bagé, in southern Brazil, to observe and document the Dia Do Gaúcho festival, started in 1848 to commemorate the gaúchos who fought in Guerra Dos Farrapos, or War of the Rags. The festival included a parade of some 3,000 mounted gaúchos, music, food, dance, and an outdoor Catholic mass for mounted gaúchos (60 color slides from Brazil). The group returned to Paysandú, Uruguay, and documented the estancia of Hubert Maness, Los Mortreros, near Mercedes on the Rio Negro (138 total color slides from Uruguay). The collection includes Charlie Seemann's original field notes (25 pages).

   Summary:

   Collection of documentary materials resulting from an ethnographic field research project conducted by the American Folklife Center in eight counties of south central Georgia, and at Mt. Zion, Georgia, in July and August 1977 in cooperation with the Arts Experiment Station of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Topics of research were hymn singing, vernacular architecture, foodways, jokes, and stories from the region. Includes documentation of the exhibition "Folk Art and Folk Life," at the Library of Congress, and proposed publication projects to 1982.

   Summary:

   Collection of photographs taken by Tom Raymond documenting storytellers and audiences at the annual National Storytelling Festival, Jonesborough, Tennessee, from circa 1984 to 2003. Most are 35 mm color slides and negatives. The collection documents the major storytellers and performers at the festival with more than 1,500 photographs of storyteller Ray Hicks taken at the festival over the years and at his home in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.

   Summary:

   Collection consists of 28 black-and-white photographic prints and 46 pages of diary excerpts written in the field by Sergei Zhirkevich, who documented music, dance, religious traditions (processions, Shrovetide customs) and rural life in the Pskov and Leningrad regions of Russia, the North Caucasus mountain area, Kazakhstan, and the former Baltic states between 1982 and 1998 for his book, Ot Zamogil'ia do Blagodati, From Beyond the Grave to Blessed Grace. (Sankt-Peterburg: Ikar, 1999). Collection includes one photograph taken in Estonia.
