   Summary:

   Hiram Simmons (1874–1938) was a Black composer and musician in Portsmouth, Virginia, known primarily for his gospel music. He also worked as an educator, music publisher, and organist. The Simmons material collected by Portsmouth librarian Bertha W. Edwards includes published music, one photograph, and a biographical sketch.

   Summary:

   Loretta C. Manggrum was a Black American pianist, composer, and music educator best known for her sacred cantatas and choral works. She was the first Black student to enroll at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and graduated in 1953 at age 57 before starting a career teaching music in Cincinnati. The collection consists largely of scores for choral and piano solo works, as well as a small amount of other materials that document her life and career.

   Sherry Sherrod DuPree, collector, historian, and librarian.    Collection of documentary materials resulting from an ethnographic field research project conducted by the American Folklife Center in eight counties of south central Georgia, and at Mt. Zion, Georgia, in July and August 1977 in cooperation with the Arts Experiment Station of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Topics of research were hymn singing, vernacular architecture, foodways, jokes, and stories from the region. Includes documentation of the exhibition "Folk Art and Folk Life," at the Library of Congress, and proposed publication projects to 1982.
