Summary:
Collection of photographs taken by Tom Raymond documenting storytellers and audiences at the annual National Storytelling Festival, Jonesborough, Tennessee, from circa 1984 to 2003. Most are 35 mm color slides and negatives. The collection documents the major storytellers and performers at the festival with more than 1,500 photographs of storyteller Ray Hicks taken at the festival over the years and at his home in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.

Summary:
The collection is comprised of field recordings made in Akron, Ohio, by John A. Lomax (on June 27-28, 1937), and Alan Lomax and Elizabeth Lomax (on November 3, 1937), of songs performed by Pearl R. Nye related to life on the Ohio and Erie Canal, plus photographs of canal life (some hand-decorated by Nye), and correspondence between Nye and Harold Spivacke of the Library of Congress, and manuscript and typed transcriptions of song lyrics sung and collected by Pearl R. Nye.

Some concerts were recorded for broadcast on WAMU-FM, hosted by Dick Spottswood. Manuscripts include some correspondence and program flyers autographed by the performers.

The concert of Chinese music was recorded in the Coolidge Auditorium, Library of Congress. The May 22 concert was held in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Neptune Plaza Concert Series. Concerts were held from April through September 1986, sponsored by the American Folklife Center and the National Council for the Traditional Arts.
