    Summary:

    Alan M. "Mike" Kriegsman, chief dance critic of the Washington Post, was the first dance writer to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize for criticism. Sali Ann Kriegsman, a distinguished dance historian, directed the Dance Program at the National Endowment for the Arts and contributed to many initiatives advancing the dance field and preserving dance legacies in the United States. The Alan M. and Sali Ann Kriegsman Collection consists of press kits, newspaper clippings, performance and conference programs, research notes and drafts, records of their service to nonprofit boards, and audiovisual materials. Note: the 192 boxes of processed materials described in this finding aid represent only about a third of the materials in the collection.

    Summary:

    Cesi Kellinger (1922-2014) was an antiquarian bookseller based in Pennsylvania. This collection consists of dance-related photographs, illustrations, books, promotional materials, performance programs, articles and clippings, and correspondence dating between 1842 and 1994. These items pertain to the careers of prominent dancers, choreographers, and educators, including Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, and Martha Graham. Kellinger collected the items and donated them to the Library of Congress in 2011.

    The Herbert H. Coburn Dance Program Collection consists of approximately 375 dance programs from 1934 to 1988. Most of the programs document performances in New York City, but performances in Seattle, Detroit, San Francisco, Boston, Washington, D.C., other American locations, and several sites abroad are also represented. Ticket stubs, cast change slips, newspaper clippings, and promotional flyers also number among the items.

    Summary:

    Jane Dudley was an American dancer and choreographer known early in her career for her work with the Martha Graham Company, the New Dance Group, and as a co-founder of the Dudley-Maslow-Bales Trio. She went on to serve as artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company in Israel before joining the faculty of the London School of Contemporary Dance. Her papers primarily consist of clippings, correspondence, musical scores, photographs, and programs related to her professional life.

    Summary:

    Benjamin Garber (1927-2001) was a distinguished interior designer who had a brief career as a dancer and enjoyed a close personal relationship with modern dance icon Martha Graham until the mid-1970s. The materials in the collection focus primarily on Garber's relationship with Martha Graham. Graham-related materials include correspondence, photographs, Graham dance company papers, programs, clippings and articles, and oral histories. Graham's convalescence at Garber's home Cross River is documented among these materials, as is Garber’s career as an interior designer and art collector.

    Summary:

    The Randolph S. Rothschild Collection consists primarily of music and accompanying correspondence, programs, and reviews. The majority of the music in the collection is facsimile scores of compositions commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Baltimore and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from American composers such as Milton Babbitt, Henry Cowell, Ross Lee Finney, Lukas Foss, Ernst Krenek, Roger Reynolds, Christopher Rouse, Gunther Schuller, and Charles Wuorinen. Many of these scores are inscribed to Rothschild and signed by the composers, and a few include programs and reviews of the concerts at which they were performed.
