    William A. Bostick World War II charts and maps collection consists of facsimiles of cartographic illustrations prepared for the 1945 book The Ampibious Sketch: Its Function in Amphibious Training and Operations. The items illustrate Utah and Omaha beaches, where American forces landed during the Normandy invasion in 1944. On verso are sunlight and moonlight tables, beach gradient graphs, and current and tidal data. Transperancy overlay used to determine water depth and safe passage to the beach for various landing craft. Bostick, a former U.S. Naval officer, created maps for then invasions of Sicily and Normandy invasions and had a successful career as an artist.

The collection consists of road maps used during the war, a commemorative map illustrating the 6th Armored Division’s role in the war, and a map from the Korean War.

    Robert Clift served as a navigator in the 492nd Bomb Group during World War II. The second lieutentant flew on missions from February 22 to April 26 in Europe. He took part in hazardous, low-level insertion missions of Allied agents behind enemy lines. His unit received a citation from the War Department in 1947. The collection consists of a map that illustrates sixteen missions and copies of photos and official military documents.

    Bob Crozier served as a Technical Sergeant in the 654th Topographic Engineers from 1943 to 1946. Crozier was part of the American First Army under General Omar Bradley. He donated a collection of photos, photo maps and maps created during World War II to the Geography and Map Division. The collection consists of 36-page booklet that describes the process of aerial reconnaissance and mapping, 15 aerial photographs, and 20 maps. Perhaps the most unique items are a captured German map that depicts Caen and a rare commemorative map of the U.S. and Russian contact at the Elbe River in 1945.

    A microfilm collection of maps that were used by The Office of Strategic Services in World War II. The maps provide coverage for all continents with strong emphasis on Europe and Southeast Asia. The maps depict political or physical features. The OSS needed to quickly build a map library quickly and acquired maps represented in this collection from the American Geographical Society in New York. The OSS, the predecessor to the Central Intelligence Agency, was formed during World War II in order to coordinate espionage activities behind enemy lines for the branches of the United States Armed Forces. Other functions of the OSS included the use of propaganda, subversion, and post-war planning.
