Summary:
Field research collection of silent film, sound recordings, color slides, and manuscripts documenting African dance and events in Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya recorded in 1963 by Judith Lynne Hanna and William John Hanna. 12 rolls of black-and-white film were shot in Ibadan and Umuahia Province, Nigeria; 28 rolls of black-and-white and color film were shot in Kenya, which includes footage of the Kenyan independence from Great Britain celebration, December 12, 1963, and Ethiopia's Haile Selassie I Folklore Ensemble, in Nairobi, Kenya; 14 rolls of film were shot at various locations in Uganda, including National Theater: a Pageant of Uganda, September 12, 1963. Audio recordings document music accompanying the dances and other events. Color slides were taken in Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya in 1963. Manuscripts include clippings, programs, and research articles by Judith Lynn Hanna (dated 1965-2009) and Judith Lynne Hanna's description of the film footage and related materials (42 p.)

Collection of papers and audiovisual materials representing the life work of ethnomusicologist Vida Chenoweth. Manuscripts, sound recordings, photographs, and films mainly of her work with the Usarufa and numerous other people in Papua New Guinea, but culture groups from other places are also represented, including Vanuatu, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands New Zealand, Kenya, Zaire, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Ivory Coast, Ghana, South Africa, Cameroon, Senegal, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Mali, Cameroon, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, and the United States. Includes work done by her students at Wheaton College and colleagues at the Summer Institute of Linguistics. Includes recording logs, analysis, song transcriptions, song texts, theses, correspondence, Chenoweth's diaries (1980s), and field notes. Sound recordings include music and spoken word from various provinces in Papua New Guinea, such as Eastern and Western Highlands, Madang, Morobe, East New Britain, New Ireland, and Irian Jaya provinces. Moving images include Chenoweth family films, as well as documentation about music and practices from throughout Papua New Guinea, the Cook Islands, Vanuatu, and other regions. They also include content from the South Pacific Festival of the Arts in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Collection of field recordings, photographs, video recordings, a film, and manuscripts created by Roxane Connick Carlisle primarily in Darfur Province and other locations in the Sudan region, which now includes South Sudan, from 1963-1968. The collection also includes photographs of musicians, musical instruments, markets, gardens, buildings, weddings, and wildlife taken in Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, and Uganda from 1963-1968. Includes field recordings of music of various groups and photographs of musicians including Anuak, Baggara, Beni Halba, Bederiya, Dinka, Fur, Nuer, Ingessana, Shilluk, Ta'isha, Zaghawa, and other people, documenting wedding music, women's song and poetry traditions, and other music and ceremonies. The collection includes eight audio tape reels of oud music, songs, and interviews with noted Sudanese musician Abdel Karim el Kably recorded in 1963. The collection also includes recordings of the radio series, Listen to the World from 1971-1973, broadcast on CHEX-FM, Peterborough, Ontario. The shows were produced, written, and narrated by Roxane Connick Carlisle. Sound recordings for radio programs, demonstration, and teaching ethnomusicology include music from Afghanistan, other locations in Africa (Ethiopia, Burundi, and more), Australia and Papua New Guinea, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, North American Indian, Philippines, Polynesia, Southeast Asia, and Spain, and include recordings for Alan Lomax's Cantometrics project. The collection includes recordings of several speeches and interviews by Roxane Carlisle, including her interview with Ahmed Diraige, governor of Darfur, March 1983.
