The collection consists of field notes, interviews, curriculum materials, sound recordings, photographs, and one videorecording resulting from a survey conducted by the American Folklife Center, Library of Congress in 1982 which documented 23 ethnic schools in the United States. Lands' End all-American quilt collection, 1992-1997

Summary:
The collection consists of photographs of quilts and quilters, essays, entry forms, and a few fabric and needlework samples submitted in three nationwide contests in 1992, 1994, and 1996 sponsored by Coming Home, a division of Lands’ End, Inc. home shopping service, and Good Housekeeping magazine. Approximately 13,100 entries for the three contests came from all 50 states and the District of Columbia with a few from Canada. Many styles of needlework, quilting, patchwork, appliqué, and embroidery are represented in the visual materials. The collection also includes correspondence and surveys from some contestants and administrative files related to judging the entries, exhibitions, and publicity.

Collection of sound recordings of interviews, readings by authors, lectures and speeches, and radio broadcasts with songs and music, recorded and compiled by Barbara Dane and Irwin Silber for the Sing Out! radio program on WBAI-FM, New York City; and for other radio shows and documentation of other music and events from 1952-1978. Includes interviews with Vietnam War protesters, draft resisters, and topical songs written about the Vietnam War; many songs about other events of the 1960s and 1970s, including the African American civil rights movement; Native American survival movement; the women's rights and gay rights movements. The collection includes some tapes submitted by performers or listeners of Barbara Dane's shows, some with accompanying letters. Includes interview and songs performed by Catalan poet and composer, Raimon; Philippine songs; Cambodian songs; sound recordings of the Poor People's March on Washington, 1968; folk festivals and other recordings.

Summary:
The collection consists of manuscripts, sound recordings, photographs, artifacts, publications, and ephemera from an ethnographic field project conducted by the American Folklife Center, Library of Congress, which documented occupational culture in Paterson, New Jersey in 1994. Subjects include the textile industry, industrial architecture, machine shops, labor unions, family owned businesses, dressmaking, and ethnic restaurants. A single manufacturing firm, Watson Machine International, was the focus of an in-depth study. The project focused on the ways in which community life and values are shaped by work and how the theme of work intersects with other themes, namely family, ethnicity, gender, neighborhood, religion, and change over time.

Collection of correspondence, research notes, transcripts, sheet music, manuscript music transcriptions, song texts, song books, maps, and administrative documents dating primarily from the tenure of John A. Lomax and his son Alan Lomax at the Archive of American Folk Song, Library of Congress, from 1932-1942, but with a few items dating to the 1960s. Correspondents include various staff at the Library of Congress, in particular, Harold Spivacke; and folklorists, musicians, writers, academics, film directors, and others, including Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter and Woody Guthrie; various government agencies including the Works Progress Administration, Federal Writers' Project, and War Department; broadcasting and record companies; publishers; and fans of Alan Lomax's radio shows, who sent in contributions of folk songs and folklore from their childhood and communities. Documents include drafts of speeches, lectures, articles, and drafts of their books for publication.
