The collection was created by Dr. Benjamin Luft and associates as part of their wellness program for World Trade Center first responders. The American Folklife Center has received two donations from Dr. Luft: 199 interviews in 2015 and 129 interviews in 2017.

Processing History
The Benjamin Luft collection of 9-11 first responders' oral histories was processed by Charles Hosale in May and June 2020. Julia Kim and others accessioned the digital files in 2015 and 2017.
