Scope and Content
The Andrew Gbur Collection consists of artifacts, clippings, correspondence, military papers, mixed manuscripts, printed matter, and photographs relating to the veteran’s service in the United States Army. Correspondence includes letters from Gbur to his mother, written while he served in Siberia and the Philippines, and letters received by the veteran from fellow soldiers. Topics covered include his movements and activities, his desire for additional news from home, duties, finances, food, impressions of Hawaii, supplies in Siberia, desire for a discharge and expected return to the United States. A second subseries of correspondence relates to the veteran’s activity with veterans organizations including Veterans of American Expeditionary Force Siberia.
Photographs include group portraits of various units, family photos, soldiers training and during off-duty hours, unidentified sailors. Photographs appear to have been taken primarily in the United States, although some may depict scenes in the Philippines.
