Scope and Content
The collection includes two diaries documenting Thomas Estévez Terry's service in the United States Army during World War I. The first diary contains daily entries documenting his deployment from Camp Millett, New Jersey to France in January of 1918 through the summer and fall battles of Belleau Wood and Chateau Thierry, including the Armistice of November 11, 1918, and concluding with December 31, 1918, while with American Expeditionary Forces served in Occupied Germany. The second diary begins in January of 1919, while he was still stationed in Occupied Germany, and contains daily entries by Terry until his return to the United States in August 1919. Topics covered include travel to Europe, training, office duties in France and Germany, the state of the war in 1918, German atrocities, and the Paris Peace talks of 1919.
