Biographical Note
Jerome Paul Shuchter was born in 1915 in Chicago, Illinois. He was a graduate of the City College of New York and worked as a statistician for the War Department in Washington, D.C. before enlisting in the Army Air Forces in April 1943.
After completing basic training at Kearns Army Air Base in Utah, Shuchter was trained at Sioux Falls Army Air Field, South Dakota and Truax Field, Wisconsin as a radio operator and a B-29 crewmember. Shuchter was assigned to the 879th Bombardment Squadron, 499th Bombardment Group in March 1944 and trained with this unit at Clovis Army Air Base, New Mexico, as well as Smoky Hill Army Air Field, Kansas. In November 1944, Shuchter deployed with his squadron to Saipan. While based on Saipan, he and his squadron participated in the strategic bombing campaign against Japan. Shuchter was discharged from the military in October 1945.
After leaving the military, Shuchter worked as an executive for the Federal Pacific Electric Company, and he also published works on economics, including the journal Jeremiad, and the book Revolutionizing Reform. He was married to Lillian Maurice and then to Miriam Evanson and had three children: Peter Shuchter, Barry Shuchter, and Sue Morris. Shuchter died in August 2004.
