Summary | Maps, including manuscript maps, professional and personal papers of cartographer-artist Richard Edes Harrison that highlight his influence on popular cartography from the 1940s to the 1970s. The collection includes examples of work from Fortune, Life, Time, and the U.S. government, among others. It consists of illustration boards, tracing sheets or paper sheets, photoreproductions, and proof prints or printed sheets. Most items are manuscript materials for stages of the cartographic process, from conception and design through compilation, drawing, lettering, separation for process photography, and printing. Also included are the unprocessed materials related to Harrison's interest in birdwatching, Central Park, urban planning, and Yale alumni records. Harrison's published maps are cataloged separately. |
