Scope and Content Note
The collection contains 83 maps, most of which are topographic maps made by the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency and mounted on foam core boards during the negotiation process.
Series 1: Indices contains two index maps of Bosnia and Herzegovina showing coverage of individual map sheets found in the subsequent series.
Series 2: 1:50,000 scale topographic sheets contains composites comprising four series M709 topographic sheets pieced together and mounted on foam-core board, with plastic overlay taped over top. Together, the composites cover all of Bosnia and Herzegovina at 1:50,000 scale, with special detail of the Sarajevo, Kupres, Doboj, and Goražde regions. This series is subarranged by creator and geographic regions. The maps in this series were created by the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency and U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. This series contains two annotated maps.
Series 3: 1:250,000 scale topographic sheets consists of U.S. Defense Mapping Agency topographic maps mounted on foam-core board with plastic overlays that, together, cover all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Two maps in this series are annotated.
Series 4: 1:600,000 United Nations Protection Force maps are all taken from a base map, the UNPROFOR road map, showing the entire area of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This series also includes many maps displaying boundaries established by the Contact Group -- a peacekeeping diplomatic group consisting of representatives from France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States -- showing demographic distributions and proposed/possible boundaries of administrative territories. Other maps depict "Lines of contact" and are often overlaid on the Contact Group maps. This series contains six annotated maps.
Series 5: Feature maps contains miscellaneous maps of selected areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the setting of the talks near Dayton, Ohio, and the final outcomes of the negotiations. This series contains two annotated maps.
