Scope and Content Note
This collection contains four maps, a monograph, a report, a set of planning documents, and personnel files.
The Maps series contains four maps printed and developed in part by the British Hydrographic Office. The maps show four landing zones in Normandy, France used by Allied troops for the 1944 invasion of Europe: Gold, Juno, Omaha, and Utah beaches. The maps show the locations of enemy weapon installations, beach hazards, tidal patterns, and other intelligence important for the landings.
The Intelligence, orders, reports, and personnel files series contains the four text items. Amphibious operations invasion of northern France, Western Task Force is an after-action report extensively analyzing the landings for the purpose of planning future amphibious operations. The Neptune Monograph summarizes Allied intelligence gathered about the geography of the landing locations and the Axis forces defending them. "Operation 'Neptune' Force 'L' operation orders" detail landing day orders for officers in the Force “L” second wave of troops that were deployed to the beach.
Lastly, the collection contains the personnel files of Commander Royal Lovell in a single file folder of approximately 100 pages.
