Organizational History
The Highwaymen formed at Wesleyan University in 1958. Students Bob Burnett, Steve Butts, Chan Daniels, Dave Fisher, and Steve Trott initially came together to perform Scots and Irish folk tunes. The group achieved commercial success with a recording of the tune, "Michael, row the boat ashore." The Highwaymen broke up in 1964, reuniting in 1987 as a touring group.
