Administrative History
Charles P. MacGregor (1897-1968) was an American radio producer and distributor. Alongside Sigurd A. Sollie, Charles founded the C.P. MacGregor Company, a sound recording studio, in 1929 in San Francisco, CA. The C.P. MacGregor Co. moved its studio to Los Angeles, CA in 1936 and began producing music and dramatic radio programs like Heartbeat Theatre.
Heartbeat Theatre aired in 1956 as a weekly, dramatic radio program and was sponsored by the Salvation Army. Episodes of Heartbeat Theatre highlighted the Salvation Army’s operations and work within communities, and its stories were inspirational with themes of morality. In 1978, the Salvation Army updated the show with more current, societal issues and renamed it the New Heartbeat Theatre. The show officially ended in 1985.
