Biographical Note
Geraldine Elliott and Eric Howlett were the originators of several radio shows for WJR, The Goodwill Station in Detroit, Michigan. In particular, The Hermit's Cave, 1935-1950 (formerly known as Ghost Story) was their most well-known program which was performed by The Mummers and sponsored for a decade by the Carter Coal Company.
Geraldine Elliott was a former schoolteacher of English and Director of Speech and Dramatics at East Lansing High School. After leaving her teaching position, she attended The University of Michigan to receive a Masters Degree in English before working for as a staff writer at WJR. There, Elliott paired up with Eric Howlett, chief producer and dramatic director at WJR, to write and produce commercial and network programs. The two married in 1941 until Howlett's death in 1970.
