Acquisition Information
The bulk of the records of the Building and Grounds Division were transferred to the Library of Congress Archives in the Manuscript Division in 1965 and 1968 from the Office of the Secretary, Library of Congress with a small addition in 1976 from the Office of the Librarian, Library of Congress. The journal of William R. Boyd was purchased from the Boyd family in 1946.
Processing History
The records of the Building and Grounds Division were arranged and described in 1991 by Paul E. Edlund and John D. Knowlton. The materials were rehoused and described, and a finding aid was encoded in 2022 by Elissa Jerome and Matthew Caruso. The collection’s original container numbering system was retained during processing. The containers are numbered in sequential order beginning and ending with each series. A copy of the finding aid prepared in 1991 is available in the Manuscript Reading Room for reference.
