Acquisition Information
The papers of Robert Houghwout Jackson, lawyer, solicitor general, attorney general, and associate justice of the Supreme Court, were deposited in the Library of Congress by his children, William E. Jackson and Mary Jackson Craighill, from1983 to 1984 and converted to a gift in 1984. Additional material was given by the Jackson family from 1985 to 1998. Other material was added via transfer from the Library's Prints and Photographs Division in 1996.
Processing History
The papers of Robert Jackson were arranged by Audrey A. Walker in 1985. Subsequent material received from 1985 to 1997 was processed as Addition I in 1998. Addition II, consisting of items received in 1998, was processed by Connie L. Cartledge in 2001. In 2005 a portion of the collection, containers 95 through 118, was microfilmed. The finding aid was revised to reflect this change.
Transfers
Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. Maps have been transferred to the Geography and Map Division. Motion pictures and sound recordings have been transferred to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division. A book, Extermination of Polish Jews; Album of Pictures, by the Central Jewish Historical Committee, has been transferred to the Library's general collection. All transfers are identified as part of the Robert Houghwout Jackson papers.
Microfilm
A microfilm edition of part of these papers is available on twenty-six reels. Consult reference staff in the Manuscript Division concerning availability for purchase or interlibrary loan. To promote preservation of the originals, researchers are required to consult the microfilm edition as available.
