Acquisition Information
The papers of Jackie Robinson were given to the Library of Congress in 2001 by his wife, Rachel Robinson. Other material received by gift and transfer, 2015-2022.
Processing History
The papers of Jackie Robinson were processed by Michael McElderry with the assistance of Sherralyn McCoy in 2002. An addition was processed and the finding aid revised in 2023 by Katherine Madison. The finding aid was updated in 2024 by Maria Farmer as part of a division-wide remediation project by the Inclusive Description Working Group.
Transfers
A phonograph recording has been transferred to the Library's Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division where it is identified as part of the Jackie Robinson Papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division in advance of a research visit.
Related Material
The National Baseball Library and Archive, Cooperstown, New York, also contains material documenting Robinson's baseball career, as do the papers of Arthur Mann and Branch Rickey, both located in the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress. The division's holdings further include material relating to Robinson's civil rights activities in the records of the NAACP and the National Urban League and the papers of Joseph L. Rauh and A. Philip Randolph.
