Acquisition Information
The Tissandier Collection on the History of Aeronautics was purchased by the Library of Congress in 1930.
Processing History
The Tissandier Collection was organized and described in 1962 by Manuscript Division staff. It was reorganized and a new register created in 2004 by Karen Linn Femia and Daniel Kolb.
Transfers
Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. Some photographs and graphic material have been transferred to the Library's Prints and Photographs Division. Digitized images of most of these items are available through the Prints and Photographs online catalog. Some books were transferred to the Rare Book and Special Collections Division. All transfers are identified in these divisions as part of the Tissandier Collection. Patrons are encouraged to contact these divisions in advance of a research visit.
