Scope and Content Note
The papers of Benjamin Clarke Marsh (1877-1952) span the years 1910-1950 and consist of correspondence, articles, extracts, legislative documents, memoranda, minutes, press releases, reports, speeches, pamphlets, scrapbooks, and clippings, mostly relating to activities of the People's Lobby, Inc., which Marsh served as executive secretary for many years. The People’s Lobby corresponded, testified, and published comments on a number of legislative issues, including agriculture, railroad management, unemployment, taxation, conservation, housing, disarmament, trade, cartels, and postwar planning. Correspondents include long time president of the lobby, John Dewey, as well as James Couzens, Harold L. Ickes, and Henry C. Wallace.
