Provenance
The papers of Edward Bates, attorney general and representative from Missouri, were deposited in the Library of Congress by Helen Nicolay in 1925 and converted to a gift in 1947. Additional gifts were received from Edward T. Stuart in 1931 and Duane Mowry in 1932.
Processing History
The papers of Edward Bates were processed and prepared for microfilming in 1987. The finding aid was revised in 2004.

A microfilm edition of these papers is available on two reels. Consult reference staff in the Manuscript Division concerning availability for purchase or interlibrary loan. To promote preservation of the originals, researchers are required to consult the microfilm edition as available.
