Scope and Content Note
The papers of Thomas Mann (1875-1955) span the years 1909-1947 and contain letters, speeches, and writings in German and English. The collection includes nine letters written between 1909 and 1928 by Mann to German writer and critic Julius Bab. Also featured is a holograph draft on Library of Congress stationery of Mann’s short story, Das Gesetz. Mann dedicated the story to the Library. Drafts of three speeches delivered between 1942 and 1947 by Mann at the Library complete the collection.
