Scope and Content Note
The papers of Gertrude Quastler (1909-1963) span the years 1895-1965, with the bulk of the material concentrated between 1940 and 1963, and focus on Quastler's career as a painter and printmaker. The correspondence file contains general and personal correspondence. Letters exchanged between Quastler and her husband, Henry Quastler, physician and research scientist, make up a large part of the personal correspondence. The subject file includes correspondence, notes, price lists, photographs, and miscellany arranged alphabetically by topic or type of material. The files pertaining to exhibitions include items related to Quastler's work as well as her activities arranging annual art shows at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York. Other highlights in the exhibition files include letters from artists Richard Diebenkorn and Balcomb Greene.
