The acquisition of the Edward Preble Papers is noted and very briefly described in the Library of Congress Annual Report for 1903 on page 21. The 1905 Annual Report (p. 53) mentioned that a first calendar of the Preble collection was ready for printing that year. The calendar was never published and remains in card index form in the Manuscript Division. A more complete and definitive published description of the Preble Papers is contained in the Library of Congress Handbook (1918), pp. 340, 341; on page 485, mention is made of the Constitution logbook in the collection.
