The correspondence of Charles Sumner (1811-1874) spans the years 1841-1874 and consists mainly of correspondence with attached and related material, including printed matter. The papers are organized chronologically and chiefly concern government publications, appointments to office, the Republican party, Sumner's law practice, and his political speeches and writings.
