Acquisition Information
The papers of Daniel J. Boorstin, author, historian, and Librarian of Congress, were deposited by Boorstin in the Library of Congress between 1975 and 2000. Additions received between 1995 and 2004 were deposited by Boorstin's wife, Ruth Frankel Boorstin. In 2006 Ruth Boorstin, donated the collection to the Library, and in 2007 she gave additional installments to the Library. An addition containing material relating to Boorstin's book Delaware Cases, 1792-1830 was given by Harvard Law School Library in 2011. In 2012 A. Gilbert Belles donated a 1962 letter written to him by Boorstin.
Processing History
The papers of Daniel J. Boorstin were arranged and described in 1995 by Connie L. Cartledge with the assistance of Paul Colton, Patricia Craig, Patrick Kerwin, Mary Lacy, Donnelly Lancaster, and Sherralyn McCoy. The finding aid was revised in 2009 by Cartledge. Material received between November 1995 and 2012 was processed as Part II in 2021 by Cartledge and Rachel Telford.
Digital files were received as part of the Daniel J. Boorstin Papers on a variety of storage media, each of which was assigned a unique digital ID number. Use the digital ID number to request access copies of the files associated with each media. Transfers
Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. Some photographs have been transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division. Sound and video recordings have been transferred to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division. One compact disc of the Levy Economics Institute Working Papers Collection has been transferred to the Library's general collections. All transfers are identified in these divisions as part of the Daniel J. Boorstin Papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact these divisions in advance of a research visit.
