Scope and Content Note
The papers of Albert Einstein (1879-1955) span the years 1916-1953 and consist of originals and reproductions of correspondence and writings by Einstein. The writings include an autographed fair copy of his 1905 paper concerning the theory of relativity, "Zur Elektrodynamik bewegter Körper," made by Einstein in 1943 and donated by him to promote the sale of war bonds through the activities of the Book and Authors War Bond Committee in World War II. An autographed manuscript of "Das Bi-Vektor Feld," was also donated to promote the war effort. "Einheitliche Feldtheorie," signed by Einstein, was presented to the Library in 1938.
Correspondents include Willy Aron, Constantin Carathéodory, and Sigmund Freud. The Freud correspondence consists of negative photostats of letters exchanged between Freud and Einstein in 1932 regarding the nature and possible prevention of war and later published as Why War?
