Scope and Content Note
The papers of Brahna Trager (1910- ) span the years 1924-1990, with the bulk of the material dating from 1950 to 1985. The papers are organized in a Health Care File and a Personal File .
The Health Care File contains papers related to Trager’s work as a home health care administrator, health care policy analyst, and advisor to the Senate Special Committee on Aging. Of particular interest are papers documenting her work with the California Crippled Children Services, San Francisco Home Health Service, the Long-Term Care Research Project of the University of California at Berkeley, her advisory work for the United States Senate, her research on international approaches to home health care, and her editorial work for Home Health Care Services Quarterly. A group of speeches and writings in this series focuses specifically on Trager’s writings about health care.
The Personal File treats Trager’s work and life outside of her health care activities. It contains biographical material, correspondence, photographs, and other papers but is comprised primarily of drafts of short stories and novels and related correspondence. In 1952 and 1953 Trager participated in the Ford Foundation Mexico City Writer’s Center, and in 1956 she was awarded a Huntington Hartford Foundation Fellowship for Literature. During the years 1950-1966, Trager pursued her long-standing dream to be a professional fiction writer. She published two short stories.
