Scope and Content Note
The papers of George Simon Kaufman (1889-1961), playwright and newspaperman, span the years 1911-1946 and consist of scripts by Kaufman and various coauthors given to the Library by Kaufman as well as items transferred from the Library of Congress Copyright Office. Coauthors include Marc Connelly, Edna Ferber, Moss Hart, Ring Lardner, Isabel Leighton, Herman J. Mankiewicz, Robert Nathan, Irving Pichel, W.W. de Renne, Morrie Ryskind, Herbert Seligman, and Alexander Woollcott. The collection includes the comedies June Moon, Dinner at Eight, and Stage Door along with the musical comedies The Cocoanuts, Helen of Troy, New York, and Let 'Em Eat Cake.
