Scope and Content Note
The papers of Paula Elkisch (1893-1978) span the years 1924-1978, with the bulk of the material dating from 1947 to 1978. They consist primarily of correspondence, notes, writings, and printed matter relating to Elkisch's work as a psychoanalyst. Included are several patient case files that Elkisch used as sources for published and unpublished writings. The writings include reprints of Elkisch's published articles on topics relating to child psychiatry, handwritten drafts of papers describing a few of her patient cases, and files relating to her apparently unfinished study of the German poet, Rainer Maria Rilke. A large portion of the collection is in English, but some material is in German.
The 2022 Addition includes two letters in German written by Elkisch and her husband, Franz Elkisch, to Shlomo Bardin on the topic of the Elkisch family's emigration to the United States.
