Scope and Content Note
The papers of Charles Jackson Train (1845-1906) span the years 1863-1870 and consist of photocopies of his journals. The journals document Train's latter years at the United States Naval Academy, 1863-1864; a four-year European cruise, 1864-1869; a brief assignment at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., 1869; and a cruise aboard the frigate Sabine in the Mediterranean and to South America, 1869-1870. During the period of his journals, Train rose in rank from ensign to lieutenant commander.
