Acquisition Information
The papers of Daniel Chester French were given to the Library of Congress by Margaret French Cresson, 1961-1970. Additional material in the collection was received by gift and purchase, 1936-1991.
Processing History
The papers of Daniel Chester French were described and arranged in 1964 and revised and expanded in 1976 by Grover Batts. Material received from 1936 to 1979 was processed as an addition in 1983 by David E. Mathisen. The finding aid was revised in 2009. Material received in 1991 was processed as an addition by Laney Stevenson in 2019.
Transfers
Photographs have been transferred to the Library's Prints and Photographs Division, where they are identified as a part of these papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact the Prints and Photographs Division in advance of a research visit.
Microfilm
A microfilm edition of part of these papers is available on forty-four reels. Consult a reference librarian in the Manuscript Division concerning availability for purchase or interlibrary loan. To promote preservation of the originals, researchers are required to consult the microfilm edition as available.
