Scope and Content Note
The papers of Gizella Lakhman (variant form of name: Gisella Rabinerson Lachman; 1890-1969) span the years 1883-1969, with the bulk of the material dating from 1941-1965. The papers are in Russian, English, German, and Spanish and are organized into the following series: General Correspondence , Writings , and Miscellany . The General Correspondence consists mainly of editorial letters but includes some correspondence with Russian emigrants and Russian poets in exile, chiefly in the 1960s. The Writings series is comprised primarily of original poems by Lakhman, holograph and typescript, and translations into Russian of the work of American poets such as Emily Dickinson, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Robert Frost. Papers in the Miscellany series contain mostly printed matter, consisting largely of émigré publications.
