The papers of Count Adam G. de Gurowski (1805-1866) span the years 1743-1898, with the bulk concentrated in the period 1848-1898. The collection consists of correspondence, notes and drafts of books and articles, lectures, printed matter, photographs, and other papers relating primarily to Gurowski’s study of America; Code Napoléon (French civil law); Crimean War; ethnology; the philosophy of history; Hungary; Japhetians; New York, New York; Poland; Roman law; Russia; and the history of slavery. Includes manuscripts of Julius Bing's autobiography and his biography of Gurowski. Some material is in French.
