The microfilm of the papers of Franz Boas, anthropologist, linguist, ethnologist, educator, and curator, was purchased by the Library of Congress from the American Philosophical Society in 1981.

The microfilm of the Boas Papers was obtained and described in 1981. The finding aid was revised in 2009.
