Scope and Content Note
The poems of Horace Callaway Carlisle (1871-1957) consist of undated and unpublished poems by Carlisle, circa 1900-1956. Carlisle is described in one of his published works, Poems of Purpose (Baltimore, 1915), as a poet who recorded his thoughts while a school teacher in Alabama and a resident of the District of Columbia. The unpublished poems, dealing primarily with patriotic and Christian themes, include a poem titled "Library of Congress."
