Scope and Content Note
The records of the Congressional Staff Club span the years 1935-1990, with the bulk of the material dating from 1955 to 1990. The records are organized in the following series: Administrative File , Banquet File , Chronological File , Financial Records , Photographs , and Publications .
The Administrative File includes the constitution, bylaws, membership application cards, and minutes of meetings.
The Banquet File contains a variety of material related to the club’s annual banquet, its major social event of the year. Included are event programs, photographs, correspondence, financial material, and publicity information. Usually the club selected a man or woman of the year to be feted at the banquet, generally a senator or a congressman. Among those honored were Everett McKinley Dirksen (1966), Gerald R. Ford (1974), John W. McCormack (1973), Edmund S. Muskie (1969) and Margaret Chase Smith (1968).
The Chronological File contains miscellaneous material from the club’s many activities, including trips, seminars, golf tournaments, the annual blood drive, elections, and parties.
The Financial Records include treasurer’s reports, tax material, and financial miscellany.
The Photographs series consists of photographs not easily dated or part of another file. A folder of portraits contains photographs of club officers and prominent political figures.
The Publications series includes newsletters and bulletins about club activities, as well as the directories and handbooks that were produced to aid congressional staffers in their work
