Acquisition Information
The papers of James Fowler Simmons, manufacturer, political leader, and United States senator from Rhode Island, were purchased in 1940. A small addition was given by Whitman Bailey in 1948.
Processing History
The papers of James Fowler Simmons were arranged and described in 1978. The finding aid was revised in 2010.
Transfers
Maps have been transferred to the Geography and Maps Division where they are identified as part of the James Fowler Simmons Papers and described in their finding aid at https://hdl.loc.gov/loc.gmd/eadgmd.gm021023. Patrons are encouraged to contact the Geography and Map Division in advance of a research visit.
