Scope and Content Note
The papers of Marion Glass Banister (1868-1951) span the years 1933-1951 and focus on her time as assistant treasurer of the United States. Appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Marion Glass Banister was the first woman to hold that position. Comprised primarily of correspondence, the papers also contain invitations and other memorabilia. A folder of publicity provides biographical information. Included in the correspondence is material relating to the Democratic National Committee and copies of her letters to her brother, Carter Glass, a United States senator from Virginia, and her sister, Meta Glass, president of Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia.
