Acquisition Information
The papers of Josephus Daniels, diplomat, journalist, and secretary of the navy, were given to the Library of Congress by his sons, Josephus Daniels, Jr., Worth Bagley Daniels, Frank A. Daniels, and Jonathan Daniels, and by other family members, 1948-1980. Additional material was given by North Carolina State University, 1966; George E. London, 1974-1976; and Sharon Curtin, via the North Carolina Division of Archives and History, 1997.
Processing History
The papers of Josephus Daniels were arranged and described in 1975 by Roy R. Thomas and Joseph F. McKeever with the assistance of Sherralyn F. McCoy. Additions were made in 1985, and in 2008 by Lia Kerwin and Patrick Kerwin. The finding aid was revised in 2010.
Transfers
Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. A recording has been transferred to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division. Photographs have been transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division. All transfers are identified in these divisions as part of the Josephus Daniels Papers.

A microfilm edition of part of these papers is available on 399 reels. Consult reference staff in the Manuscript Division concerning availability for purchase or interlibrary loan. To promote preservation of the originals, researchers are required to consult the microfilm edition as available.
