Acquisition Information
The papers of Ray S. Cline, intelligence analyst, educator, and author, were given to the Library of Congress by Cline in 1989 and 1994-1995.
Processing History
The Ray S. Cline collection was processed in 1994 by Bradley E. Gernand with the assistance of Lisa Madison and Jennifer Barbour and expanded in 1997 by Bradley E. Gernand. The finding aid was revised in 2010.
Transfers
Sound and video recordings have been transferred to the Library's Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division. Some photographs have been transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division. All transfers are identified in these divisions as part of the Ray S. Cline papers.
Other Repositories
Transcripts of interviews with Cline regarding the Cuban missile crisis, Bay of Pigs, and other Central Intelligence Agency operations are held by the Hoover Institution of Stanford University, Stanford, California, and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library in Austin, Texas. Papers concerning the United States Army in World War II, the Operations Division of the War Department General Staff, and Cline's publication of The Washington Command Post in 1951 are located in the archives of Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cline's files created during his government intelligence career, including security classified information regarding the superpower contest over Cuba in 1961-1962, have been retained by the Central Intelligence Agency.
