Acquisition Information
The papers of Amitai Etzioni were given by him to the Library of Congress in two installments in 1986 and 1987. Several additions were given by him, his wife, Patricia Kellogg, Frank L. Evans, Katherine W. Evans, as well as The George Washington University, the University of Wyoming's American Heritage Center, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Extant Americana between 1997 and 2023.
Processing History
The papers of Amitai Etzioni were processed in 1995 by T. Michael Womack with the assistance of Sherralyn McCoy, Brian McGuire, Susie Moody, Andrew Passett, and Karen Spicher. The online version of the finding aid was created by Mary Lacy in 2011. Additions received between 1997 and 2023 were arranged and described as Part II in 2023 by Elizabeth Livesey with the assistance of Emily Flint, Shandra Morehouse, Tammi Taylor, Chanté Flowers, Miles Lawlor, Kimberly Owens, Tom Bigley, Kathleen O'Neill and Chad Conrady.
Digital files were received as part of the Amitai Etzioni Papers on a variety of storage media, each of which was assigned a unique digital ID number. Use the digital ID number to request access copies of the files associated with each media. Transfers
Motion pictures, projection slides, sound recordings, and videocassettes have been transferred to the Moving Image Section and Recorded Sound Section of the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC) where they are identified as part of the Amitai Etzioni Papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact NAVCC in advance of a research visit.

Technical Requirements
Digital files were created in both Windows and Mac operating systems, versions unknown. The content is primarily text files in word perfect, .doc, .pdf, .pm5, and .pm6 formats, image files in .jpg and .tif formats, audio files in .wav and .mp3 formats, and video files in .vob, .avi, and .wmv formats.
PageMaker 5 (.pm5) and PageMaker 6 (.pm6) files require emulation in a DOS environment. This is noted within the container list.
Eight computer tapes received with this collection are currently unprocessed due to lack of required hardware and are not available for research.
