Scope and Content Note
The papers of Charles Schuveldt Dewey (1880-1980) span the years 1924-1933, with the bulk of the material dating from 1927 to 1930. The collection relates to the years Dewey served as the financial advisor to Poland and director of the Narodowy Bank Polski (National Bank of Poland).
The papers relate to nearly every phase of economic and political conditions in Poland, including agriculture and agrarian reform, banking, budget, commerce and industry, the constitution, cooperatives, customs and tariffs, the Polish corridor and Danzig, Germany (Gdańsk, Poland), social insurance, taxes, transportation, and trusts. Included also are Dewey's report as financial advisor, an essay on Polish agriculture, statistical data on the Narodowy Bank Polski (National Bank of Poland), a copy of the conditions of concession for a railroad through Silesia to the Baltic Sea, and a letter from Dewey to his mother.
