Scope and Content Note
The Emily A. Stewart Collection of Elihu Root Material spans the years 1885-1959, with the bulk of the papers concentrated in 1885-1936. The collections consists chiefly of transcripts of conversations between Elihu Root and members of his family concerning his ancestry and biography, the League of Nations, New Deal, Prohibition, the Department of State, the Washington Disarmament Conference of 1921, and the World Court. Included are letters of Stewart, Root, and others, speeches and articles by Root, and clippings about him.
