Scope and Content Note
The papers of Dwight Lyman Moody (1837-1899) span the years 1864-1937, with the bulk of the material concentrated in the period 1864-1899. The collection contains general and family correspondence, scrapbooks, sermon notes, and printed matter relating to Moody's work as an evangelist; the Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies, Northfield, Massachusetts; the Mount Hermon School for Boys, Mount Hermon, Massachusetts; and family and financial affairs. Correspondents include John D. Cutter, Cyrus Holton, William F. Lee, and Henry W. Rankin. Also in the collection is a Civil War diary kept by D. W. Whittle in 1864 while serving under General William T. Sherman in Georgia.
