Scope and Content Note
The papers of Marjorie Claire Stinson (1896-1975) span the period 1900-1975, with the bulk of the material dated 1955-1975. The papers consist of correspondence, research notes, biographical material, awards, printed matter, newspaper clippings, and personal financial records. The arrangement retains Stinson’s file folder headings and general organization, and the collection is organized into four series: Family and General Correspondence , Subject File , Miscellany , and Oversize .
The Family and General Correspondence contains letters and cards, with enclosures, photocopies of letters, and a large amount of collected material. It includes documentation relating to Stinson’s experiences in early twentieth-century aviation, World War I aviation history, and the Stinson Flight School in San Antonio, Texas.
The Subject File contains research notes and other material reflecting Stinson’s interests in the history of aviation and her involvement in organizations such as the Early Birds of Aviation and the Aero Club of America. It also includes biographical material she assembled concerning her own career and those of other members of her family, especially her sister, Katherine Stinson Otero, and her brother, Edward Stinson.
Included in the Miscellany are personal financial records, printed matter, newspaper and magazine clippings, and awards.
