Scope and Content Note
The papers of James Robert Mann (1856-1922) span the years 1887-1922 and consist of mounted newspaper clippings, correspondence, telegrams, invitations, memorabilia, and miscellaneous printed matter relating to Mann's career in Chicago politics and as a Republican representative from Illinois. Subjects include Chicago River improvement, interstate commerce legislation, the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906, the Mann Act of 1910 prohibiting interstate sex trafficking, the investigation of wood-pulp and paper by a congressional committee, 1908-1910, Republican congressional party leadership, and Mann's successful campaigns to win reelection.
